Linden Office Hours

June 29, 2007

I finally got around to attending a Linden Office Hour.  And what better Linden to start out with (no offense to all the wonderful Lindens) than Mr. Torley himself.  It was great.  The talk was lively, entertaining and educating.  I also met my first Fury there and we exchanged friendship. (Obviously I don’t get out enough).  Well worth the early hour for me to attend.  I definitely plan to attend more when I can.  Thank you Torley!

P.S.  Also thanks for taking care of that maintenance issue.  I am indebted to you.

What a surprise!

When I came in-world today there was a landmark from Tin waiting on me.  I followed it all the way to the door of a house in the Babbage Canals.  Upon entering I saw Tin’s SteamPunk in-box and knew he had found a home.  I was about to drop a notecard into his in-box when he rezzed in.  After pleasantries we took a stroll around the area and he showed me where the ad space was that he purchased.  I was hoping to see the Mayor but alas we were the only two about at that time.   It is amazing how many well known people live in the Babbage area.  The colors are so rich and textured.  It reminds me of sepia for some reason that I can never put a word to.  I love the look and feel of the Babbage regions.  I’m glad Tin has found a place there for him to live.  Of course I had to swing by the Whithnail Academy to see if any old classmates were about.  A couple more friends that Tin had sent landmarks to rezzed in.  After some tea and chit-chat I took my leave and did some shopping.  But that is always a story for another time.  Until then.  Good day.  ^_^

New Babbage Canals

For the first time since being converted to SteamPunk, instead of blogging about a place I have visited, I am blogging about a place I live!  Thanks to a tip from OspreyTherian (I owe you dinner) I was able to connect with Governor Shaunathan and rent an adorable row house in the Canal district.  I have a picture of the place but unfortunately WordPress is being difficult and not uploading it properly.  I will need to revisit this post again.  I put some things out but most are in the Mainland house in West Haven and I will pick them up the next time I am there.  (After some finagling I was able to get WordPress to cooperate and upload my picture)  BTW, Governor Shaunathan is very cool and very charming.  But then again, everyone I have encountered in the SteamPunk regions have been very charming.  I also set up an ad space along the canals for my SL 512 Stores.  The gentleman who owned them was very helpful as well.  Noble doesn’t know yet about the row house.  I sent her a landmark to visit when she next comes in.  She will be happy since it is within walking distance of the Whitnail Academy.  I am still on the Caledon waiting list for a parcel that will most likely be for commercial use.  I won’t know for sure what the use will be though until Mr. Desmond sends out the notices of what is available.

I have been exploring the Caledon regions for the past couple of hours in search of two things:

1.  A place to live and open a business (I’m on the waiting list but so impatient)
2.  The perfect SteamPunk photo shot to submit to Osprey’s SteamPunk Photo Contest

So far I’m batting zero.  But not all is a loss because I got to spend the past couple of hours exploring the Caledon regions. {:o)

I spent some time at Ordinal Enterprises checking out all the latest gadgets.  She is truly one talented Lady.  I love visiting her workshop located in the Caledon sim.  Sorry I don’t know the SLurl off the top of my head so I am linking her website for you to find on your own.  Believe me, it is worth the time.

In an article that Eloise Pasteur writes for Second Life Insider as a follow up to a blog posted by Your 2nd Place ’s Nobody Fugazi, Eloise talks about how she divides newcomers to SL into three categories; citizens, incomers and tourists.  I mainly want to talk about my take on the Tourists part.  My home is located in West Haven within flying distance of the Public Orientation Island and the Public Help Island.  Which means that a large portion of newbies end up at my front door.  Early on I had put up ban lines because of the constant invasion and disruption.  But then there came a point that if I couldn’t stop them, then help them, or move.  So I dropped the ban lines and opened my doors.  Because my FL past work experience includes some years in the tourist industry, I started treating them as out of town tourists.  They are lost, need information, assistance, directions, etc.  Not only has it lead to me joining the Volunteer Help Island group but I have also applied with Linden Lab to be a Volunteer or Mentor.  *wave to Blue Linden*  I think it has made me a better avi and a better resident of SL.  As a bonus I have made some really cool friends.  I think by first treating them as tourists and taking the time to help them understand what SL is truly all about we help to turn them into Residents or Incomers.  There will always be those who come in, don’t get it, and leave.  And then there are those who come in and treat it as a game for their own amusement.  But for the rest of them I plan to take the time to help them aclimate to the coolest way of life this side of First Life.

SL4B - Part Two

June 24, 2007

After some much needed rest I returned to the celebration to do some more exploring.  The first place I visited was the Star Trek exhibit.  Very cool since I am a big sci-fi fan.  I set in the Captains chair they had on display but forgot to take my pix.  {:o(  I guess I will have to make a return visit. {:o)  I then spent some time visiting the exhibits designed by Vint Falken and M is for Myg.  Different concepts on design but both were totally cool in their own way showing their individual personalities.  I then finished with a stop by the photography shop of Osprey Therian.  Also a cool exhibit.  All three of these artists I specifically looked for in hopes of meeting them as well as seeing their work.  Alas I did not get to meet them but at least I did get to see their work.  There are so many other people I hope to meet while we are all coming together for this shared event.  I plan to return again after I get home from my FL job.

History is fun!

June 24, 2007

I decided to jump right into the thick of things this evening and go over to the SL4B sims.  It is amazing!  All the exhibits from the artists.  Of course I had to put on a new outfit and hair for the occassion.  I crashed out only once so I think that is a good thing.  The lag was minimal due to the absurd time of night I was there.  I got to meet Robin Sojourner and say hello.  She is very nice.  I saw Miss Lapin Paris off in the distance at the Caledon exhibit but did not get a chance to introduce myself.  She did a wonderful job which Tinsel mentions but fails to mention her by name.  I too visited the Titanic and took my picture at the top of the staircase looking down at my invisible Jack Dawson.  *sigh*  A couple of gentlemen spoke to me but I was a proper Lady and walked on since I was unescorted at the time.  I tried to keep myself in the PG areas but was not always successful.  I plan to attend again tomorrow when time allows.  Until then.  Good day ^_^

Happy SL4B!

Well day one of the festivities has come and gone.  It was slow starting (literally!) but was much easier the second time in.  I got to see alot of people as well as meet one particular lady in blue whom I have admirred from afar for some time now.  She was well worth the wait and I was promised a dance that I failed to show up for due to an unexpected delay in First Life.  Truly my loss and I am kicking myself repeatedly for it.

I did not get to see all the exhibits for there are too many to see in one visit.  However one I most enjoyed seeing was the Titanic; walking the decks and ascending the grand staircase shown above.

The Caledon exhibit was very nicely laid out and I enjoyed spending some time there talking with folks.

Other than the lag (and my own tardiness) I was very pleased with the first day.

Hello everyone!

June 23, 2007

I see that Tinsel has already introduced me.  So much for me getting to tell you about my new hat!  Where to begin?  It has been a non-stop adventure since I rezzed in earlier this week.  Everything is new yet so familiar since I have heard Tin talk so much about different places and people.  My biggest thrill so far was shopping in the Caledon sims.  I know that makes me sound shallow.  Not meant to.  But the sims are just so peaceful and beautiful.  Very conducive to civilized shoppping.  I have joined several groups - two in particular that I am excited to hear from.  The All Saints Chapel is where I plan to attend Church.  And the Willow Tea Room where I plan to, what else, have tea!  Anyway, Tin says I go on and on so I guess I will keep this short.  It is a pleasure meeting you all.  I look forward to seeing you inworld and blogging outworld.  Until then.  Good day ^_^

I would like to introduce everyone to a special Lady.  And notice that I capitalized that word.  She has finally agreed to join Second Life after my many requests.  She is a SteamPunk fan like myself.  I have uploaded a pix of her taken earlier today when she was modeling her new hat for me.  But I will say no more for I’m sure she will want to tell you about that when she blogs on here.
